Mobilising a patient in bed
Aims and intended learning outcomes
Using moving blocks and sliding sheet to enable the patient to move himself.
To demonstrate to the students and to allow them to practice the following:
- sitting and lying down the less mobile patient in bed
- turning the patient over in bed
- moving up and down the bed
- the use of a sliding sheet
Intended learning outcomes
The student will be able to demonstrate the use of:
- easy glide sheets
- moving blocks.
The student will be able to demonstrate assisting the patient:
- sitting and lying down in bed
- turning over in bed
- moving up and down the bed
These patients have only minimal mobility, possibly due to unconsciousness, trauma, major surgery or severe muscle weakness.
